cause and effect

Well, I'm sad to say that my 1980's Halfinger house shoes bit the official dust last week.
They started out as my mom's shoes back in the day, and at some point in my first pregnancy, I stole acquired them from her. I LOVE these house shoes. I mean they might just be the one article of attire I would retrieve if my house were on fire.
I have received so much grief from those who have been given the opportunity to see me wear them. But I've stood firm, (pun) and planted my feet on the foundation that these are the most comfortable shoes for wearing in the house. Yes, they may have been truly falling apart at the seams, note the hole in the front toe, and down the side. Nonetheless, I would wear them loud and proud, until I couldn't.

I was making Rubes yogurt-milk, and shaking the thick liquid, when the lid stopped working and flew off, but the shaking continued. Hence the mess.

I was not upset until I felt my feet become soaking wet, and I knew it was over. My relationship with my beloved Haflinger shoes was over. I knew we could not survive milk and yogurt soaked shoes. I knew no matter how much I cleaned them, they would forever smell of sour milk. And that was not ok with me. As much as is pained me, and overjoyed Drew, I threw them away.

( R.I.P. faithful and beloved house shoes)

It wasn't until I went online to look for a new pair and realized that would cost me $125.00, that's right folks, you read me correctly $125.00 for the exact same shoe. I think that even spending $30.00 on house shoes is to much for me.
So I started thinking and I thought that since the previous shoes served me so well, I should go back to place where I got them, Honey's closet. And wouldn't you know it, there were the cutest red house shoes waiting for me to show them the same love I had shown the previous pair. I made sure that she had plenty of other pairs to choose from before I made my "purchase," so as not to leave her with cold feet.

Thanks Honey!

I am so sorry about your beloved house shoes, although I must say that you are the most savvy shopper that I know! ;)

Emily, I drew your mom's name for Christmas 13-15 years ago and she asked for those Haflinger clogs! I searched everywhere until I found just the color she wanted. I'm so glad they have brought you so much joy. You should do a commercial for them and maybe you could work a deal on some new ones, cause those red puppies look like something from my great- grandmother's closet!

it's like "what not to wear" on TLC where they take nasty/unflattering items and trade them out for more stylish ones. you made a good choice:) the new ones are "you"!

Wow, I think you even wore those shoes when I lied in K-town! Or at least I've seen you wearing them since. I couldn't live without my L.L. Bean moccasin slippers and my Old Navy jersey pajama pants. Love me some lounge wear!

I hope that wasn't a Freudian slip!
